If we’re meeting for the first time, my name is Courtney Cox. I am a modern hand embroidery artist living in Austin, Texas with my husband and dogs. I started stitching in 2017 when a friend introduced me to the craft. The years that followed were tough, and I leaned on embroidery to help get me through.
In 2019 I was diagnosed with stage III of a progressive inflammatory disease that causes internal bleeding. My health faltered but my hands did not. I was too sick to do much else, so I started to really pursue embroidery. Now, thanks to several surgeries, medications, and lifestyle changes (I eat a lot of kale), I am feeling much better!
My embroidery has changed as much as I have. It started out with a floral motif and now I stitch mainly portraits. My work has been exhibited across the US and has gone international this year. I have a piece in a show in Ukraine as I type this post.
All of these changes have made me want to share more about what’s going on in my art and life in a longer form than an Instagram post. Creating a blog seemed like the right next step. I plan to post once a week on Fridays. If you have any questions or requests for what you would like me to write about, please drop me line!
While you’re here, how about a reason to celebrate? Today is a special day. Today marks one year since I had my big operation. I am officially in remission!
